- Act Responsible – Advertising Sustainability — Nov 14, 2009 10:00am - Mar 14, 2010 6:00pm
Originally collected by ACT (Advertising Community Together), this exhibit showcases advertisements from around the world, connected by the common theme of sustainability. Ad professionals are in a unique position to help promote awareness, as their work is seen by millions of people. As an exhibit visitor, you are invited to share your responses to these ads and to the greater issues they bring to your attention. This exhibit strives to show that each of us can make a difference by educating others, and ourselves by minimizing our use of resources and by demanding change. Patio Gallery in the Desert Living Center. Saturday, November 14-March 14, 2010. Free with general admission and for Springs Preserve members.
- Sandhi Schimmel Gold: Junk Mail Art — Nov 14, 2009 12:00pm - Mar 14, 2010 8:00pm
Sandhi Schimmel Gold describes herself as "...a rabid recycler. I am compelled to upcycle unusual resources to create my art." She creates portraits using take-out menus, junk mail, postcards, business cards, old greeting cards, cruise itineraries- all items that would end up in the recycling bin. Inspired by glass art and mosaics, she cuts tiny tiles from these items, assembling them according to color to create beautiful works of art. Her work has shown at museums and galleries throughout the country, and in 2009 she participated in Access Hollywood's "Things You Must..." gift lounge for the Golden Globe Awards. Patio Gallery in the Desert Living Center. Saturday, November 14-March 14, 2010. Free with general admission and for Springs Preserve members.
